Almost, Maine is a magical play set in a fictional, though highly authentic, town in northern Maine. Author John Cariani leans toward the absurdist genre and offers a series of short scenes that succeed one another in real time, but occur in reality at the same time.

Every scene depicts some uplifting, heartbreaking, gut wrenching, embarrassing and/or unexpected fractal of the universal, unavoidable force of love. It’s as if we are looking at love through a kaleidoscope pointed at the inhabitants of rural Maine underneath the umbrella of the mystical Northern Lights. Cariani’s play is funny, touching, beautiful, sad and as real as it is imaginary.

Director Valerie Remillard is looking for an ensemble cast of 10 men and 9 women ages 20’s-40’s. Rehearsal schedule will be light (no more than two days/week until tech) if we can assemble a full cast of 19. Rehearsals will be more frequent if we have to cast individual men or women in more than one scene.

Auditions will be held Monday, December 3 and Wednesday, December 5, 7 pm (sign-in beginning at 6:30 pm) at Jenks Auditorium, 350 Division Street, Pawtucket (across from
McCoy Stadium), and will consist of cold readings from the script.

Production dates are February 22-24 and March 1-3 at Jenks Auditorium. No appointments necessary – those auditioning do not need to attend both nights. Rehearsal nights TBD – please come with potential rehearsal conflict dates (i.e., vacations, dates/times you are not available).
